How to Make Plans for Retreats for Depression and Anxiety-Depression and anxiety are the two problems that most quickly affect us in society. Handling and mental health therapy are not the same for everyone who experiences them.
It is normal to feel depressed and anxious occasionally. These occasional conditions need to be addressed and treated. If left untreated, you won’t be able to normally function as you usually do. One of the ways to treat these conditions is to have retreats for depression and anxiety. Don’t know how to make plans for it? Our guide below can help.
The location is the first thing to consider. The question is, where should you do your retreat? If you have the money and time, traveling somewhere is probably your best option. If you are not comfortable with new and unfamiliar locations, find locations that are new, allow you to relax and most importantly, you feel comfortable in them.
For example, you can do a retreat in a location no more than two hours away from your house. The locations can be close to businesses (such as spas, yoga studios, gyms, restaurants, etc.), close to nature (a forest, a beach, a quiet park, etc.) or both. The ideal location is a mix of both.
Main Components of the Retreats
Next, are the main components of retreats for depression and anxiety. The components are fitness, mindfulness, journaling and spa treatment.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to go to the gym for this. Activities like biking, yoga, Tai chi, and kayaking can help you get fit and feel better about yourself and your body, too.
This can be done in lots of ways. From meditation, eating mindfully to coloring mandalas. The most important thing is to be mindful of what you are doing. If you don’t know how to meditate, there are many local meditation groups that can help you. Looking for meditation instructions on Youtube can help, too.
- Spa Treatments
As cliché as it sounds, spa treatments really do work. During your retreat, you want to be as relaxed and calm as possible. This is where spa treatments help. Get a massage, acupressure, sit in a sauna or hot tub, Ayurvedic therapy and so on.
Journaling is similar to mindfulness in terms of training yourself to keep watch on your mind. By journaling, however, you can keep track of yourself. You can write what you have learned during your retreats, what kind of feelings you have, and things you are grateful for, for example.
Retreats can also include other components such as aromatherapy as well as a digital detox. However, aromatherapy and digital detox are mostly a personal choice, so we leave it to you to decide.
Meals and Drinks
Meals and drinks are also an important part that needs planning in retreats for depression and anxiety. If you want to calm and relax your mind, feeding your body with healthy meals and drinks is a must. When you are on a retreat, be sure to eat healthy foods and drink healthy drinks. Healthy foods and drinks will help you improve your condition.
For a mental health retreat, the ideal foods are whole and/or organic foods, anti-inflammatory meals, and other nutritious foods.
As for the ideal drinks, try to sugar, tobacco, caffeine, and alcohol. Drink fresh smoothies, fresh juices, fruit-infused water, and matcha tea instead.
